Dot Kite
Dot Kite was born in Columbus, Georgia and educated in Columbus public schools. She received her degree in Business Administration from Columbus State University and has continued her education with numerous courses in human relations, management, sales, sales management, and insurance.
She and her husband Wallace have two daughters and one fabulous nine year old grandson. Dot developed her competitive nature by being raised with three brothers and inherited her independence from her 95 year-old mother who still drives.
Helping her brothers deliver newspapers and working at several jobs while in high school provided a good foundation as she began her full-time business career as a cashier with Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Columbus. She quickly moved up the ranks and was the manager of three departments (the only person in the company managing more than one department) before going into marketing with Blue Cross. As the national account executive covering the state of Georgia, she was consistently the top sales producer before leaving the company in 1981 to start her own scratch State Farm agency in Pine Mountain, Georgia.
Her record as an agent led her into management where she was the first female district sales manager for State Farm in the southeast. Her district included the southwest Atlanta area and she moved to Fayetteville in 1986. After several years in management, she missed the contact with individual customers so she took the Hapeville, Georgia State Farm Agency of a retiring agent and relocated this business to Fayetteville in 1992. Of the 16,000 State Farm Agents nationally, the State Farm President’s Club is comprised of the top fifty agents in the nation in each of the major lines of business. Since moving to Fayetteville, she has achieved President’s Club status 12 times and is now a lifetime member of this group.
Dot is very involved with her community. She is a charter member of Fayetteville Main Street, Charter member of the Fayette Community Hospital Auxiliary, and is currently a partner-in-education with East Fayette Elementary School. Her participation in the “Toys for Tots” drives for the last five years has resulted in over 4,000 toys for needy children. Dot takes great pride in being a Kiwanian and is a past-treasurer and past-vice-president of the Fayetteville Club. She is also past chairperson of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce.
In 2000, Dot was appointed by the Fayette County Commission to serve on the Fayette Economic Development Authority. Her State Farm Agency was named the Fayette County Small Business of the Year and she was also named as the Outstanding Business Leader in Fayette County in 2000.
